AWARDS AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES FOR UNPUBISHED MANUSCRIPTS

Dorothy Hewett Award—an annual award for an unpublished manuscript. The work can be fiction, narrative nonfiction or poetry, and the prize is $10,000 and a publishing contract with UWA Publishing.

TAG Hungerford Award—a biennial award for fiction and creative nonfiction to a resident of WA who has never been published. The prize is $12,000 and publication .

The Vogel Award—is for writers under 35 years of age and offers publication by Allen & Unwin, with an advance against royalties plus prize money totalling $20,000.

The TEXT Prize is for young adult and children’s writing. The winner receives $10,000 and a publishing contract with Text Publishing.

QWC/Hachette Manuscript Development Programme—offers up to 10 emerging authors the opportunity to work with editors from Hachette to develop their manuscript.

Richell Prize for Emerging Writers offers $10,000 in prize money, and a 12-month mentorship with one of Hachette Australia’s publishers.

Varuna Residential Fellowships offer 25 writers two weeks at Varuna to develop their manuscript.

Varuna Publisher Introduction Programme gives 12 writers of fiction, literary non-fiction, and short stories the chance to nurture their manuscripts to publication stage with six different publishers.

Varuna-Affirm Press Mentorship Award offers up to four writers the opportunity to work with the Affirm Press publishing team whilst in residence at Varuna.

ASA Mentorships offers 12 writers the chance to develop their manuscripts to a publishable standard by working with a mentor of their choice for 25 hours over one year.

Hardcopy—a professional development programme run through the ACT Writers’ Centre.
